REBOOT

REIDSVILLE

REBOOT REIDSVILLE UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE

WELCOME TO REBOOT REIDSVILLE

Reboot Reidsville is an important effort being undertaken by the City to prepare a new Unified
Development Ordinan
ce (or a “UDO”). A UDO is a regulatory document that integrates the City’s zoning,
subdivision, and flood damage prevention regulations into a single volume. It is the City’s primary tool for
guiding land use and development activities in ways that will:

  • Improve the quality of life for City residents;

  • Support property values;

  • Promote downtown redevelopment;

  • Broaden the range of housing options; and

  • Help the City achieve its goals for future development

In 2022, the City adopted its Land Development Plan. A comprehensive assessment of current
socioeconomic and development conditio
ns in Reidsville, 6 goals for the City’s future development, a
map to guide decisions about the locations of development,
and an implementation schedule describing
the actions necessary to reach the goals. The regulations and procedures in the UDO are one of the
primary ways the City will achieve the goals and objectives identified in the Land Use Plan.

The next step in the process is to revise Reidsville’s current development regulations in ways that will
help further the City’s goals for future development. Reboot Reidsville is the name of the effort to
prepare the new UDO and revise the current development rules.

DRAFT UDO IN PROGRESS

City staff, City Council, and the consulting team have been hard at work on the draft UDO text. The new UDO is expected to have 10 chapters. Six of those are done and can be seen here.

More information on the other four as yet unfinished chapters (3,4,5,10) is available in the Annotated Outline draft document, which can be obtained here. The City will discuss the plan and schedule for completion of the remaining chapters and the next steps in the process at the Java and Jargon event being conducted at the Chamber of Commerce on 9/16/25 (see more about that session here).

This page will be updated with details on the timing of the remaining steps in the project shortly afterwards.
